CASE STUDY: INSITE HELPS FUTURE-PROOF COFFEY INFORMATION

Scientific testing expert, Coffey Information has launched a state of the art new Western Australian laboratory, designed by leading commercial interiors firm, InSite which will help the organisation remain adaptable to clients’ business needs in an increasingly volatile market.

A subsidiary of global firm, Coffey International, this Perth based facility provides specialist testing and analysis services to the mining, environmental and construction industries.

Shifting from outdated Osborne Park facilities to the new state of the art facility in Welshpool meant the opportunity for Coffey to grow and flourish in a larger, more flexible 1000sqm environment, with capacity to expand the space by an additional 50%.

Laboratory Manager Shaun Chapman relished the challenge of the transformation and oversaw the conversion of the empty shell into the newly operational facility.

“Working with InSite we created our ideal scenario on paper and then together worked on scoping the new workspace to meet our needs and the needs of our clients.”

With two significant upcoming contracts on the horizon, there was a tight deadline for Coffey to be in the new facility. “The most challenging part of the project was obtaining Council approvals,” said Shaun. “I think we spent less time on site than getting these, so really the design and construct period only took around six months.”

InSite managed the design and construction of the fit out and created the optimum solution for Coffey, on time and on budget.

Since relocating in March, the Coffey Information team have experienced a level of flexibility they could only have dreamed about in the previous facility.

“One over-riding benefit of the fit out is the mobility of the design. A large proportion of the furniture is moveable, including the stainless steel benches that line the lab and warehouse. This means we can easily adapt the layout as we get a better feel for the space, or according to a particular contract we are fulfilling.

“The end result is a quantum leap from how we were operating previously. The space flows well; everything works how we need it to.

“We’re able to fulfil an increased volume of larger contracts for clients, making for a more efficient service delivery. Our clients have been impressed by the new facility and have welcomed the faster, better service they receive as a result of the improved environment,” said Shaun. “Importantly, our team are aware they’re working out of a facility that is second to none, and this creates a more engaged and motivated workforce. I’d say it has made a positive impact on our working environment and culture.”
